What you will find on the NAAJA Web Site:
We have linked to a national events page where you can find information about Arab American community events, and other event calendars from across the nation. We include our NAAJA events on that page for review. We want to hear from all our members and any Arab American journalist. Our goal is to network everyone together to improve professionalism through communications, which is our profession.
NAAJA is a professional organization for journalists in print, broadcast and online media who are of Arab heritage. Membership also includes individuals working in professional communications and also students of media and communications.
NAAJA does not charge a membership fee, however there is a membership fee required to join AAJA and receive their full benefits.
Our goals are to bring professional journalists from the Middle East together and to create a networking environment free of politics that helps members meet, promote and help each other professionally.
We encourage "members" to organize chapters in their cities and take control of their activities. We wish to network with ALL Arab and Middle East Journalism organizations, but our focus is journalists from the Arab World and of Arab heritage or who work for American Arab publications.
We host journalism and writing contests, such as the Mehdi Courage in Journalism Awards; sponsor regional conferences and seminars; and, provide a journalism scholarship for students of Middle Eastern heritage who are entering their first year of journalism school.
We're not here to boss you around. We are here to help you build your professional journalism career.
We are NOT a political advocacy organization, except in the context of advocating professional journalism conduct by the mainstream media and by the American Arab ethnic media. While we address political issues, we do so only in the context of professional Journalism. Our members are Arab or of Arab heritage or married to individuals of Arab heritage or work at American Arab publications and media.
We strive to help American Arab journalists become more professional. We work to engage American Arabs to insure that their journalism product is in harmony with the fundamentals of professional journalism. We strive to be journalists, not activists or advocates for a cause. We seek to insure that our written product is consistent with professional journalism and we endeavor to avoid becoming advocates for "popular causes" in our community. We are not activists for political issues, but journalists for accuracy, fairness. balance, and principle.
